Reading tutoring for students of all ages

Hi, I'm Sean! I specialize in supporting students in conquering reading and learning challenges through targeted and organized literacy coaching. My goal is to empower them academically, fostering confidence and success.

Hey there! I'm Sean

Having grown up in a homeschool environment, I understand how all children are different and have different learning needs. I am here to provide for students what they need in order to be successful.

1-on-1 tutoring

I will guide your student through a program called Barton Reading, a scientifically developed system derived from the Orton-Gillingham method. This will enable them to have phonemic awareness, achieve alphabetic fluency, and be able to read and spell open and closed syllable words.

I can provide my services at the your residence or a public location. My driving time is also factored in with my hourly rate.

My tutoring methods

I use a phonetically based program specially designed for those struggling with spelling and reading. This was primarily composed with dyslexic students in mind, but studies have shown to improve the spelling and reading abilities of anyone wrestling with these skills. Consider the following characteristics:
  • Forgets or misspells words they just learned
  • Struggles with sight words (does, what, friend, where, etc.)
  • Struggles with capitalization and grammar rules
  • Difficulty with rhyming words
  • Dysgraphia (slow or non-automatic handwriting, oftentimes difficult to read)
  • Slow, choppy, or inaccurate reading
  • Letter or number reversals (confuses d-b, b-p)
  • Difficulty with directions
  • Difficulty with non-meaningful facts
  • Switches right to left hand during writing or eating
These are just a few of the qualities that one with dyslexia might exhibit. Some learning environments are not equipped to support every child’s learning needs, but your child still has great potential to succeed academically. While I have been specially trained to work with dyslexic students, my tutoring services are available to anyone struggling with spelling, reading, and/or writing.
How it works

Here is how we can start working together

Step 1

Get in touch with me through my email below.

Step 2

I will reach out to schedule a 15 minute consult

Step 3

After scheduling a day and time that works best, I will conduct a FREE informal screening to determine if the student is ready for the program.

Step 4

If they are, we can move forward and schedule 2 hours of training per week for your student’s program.

Commonly asked questions.

How much do your services cost?

My rate is $40/hour, and tutoring is required at a minimum twice per week. This can be paid monthly, weekly, or by day, and payment must be made prior to the day of tutoring. My cancellation policy is at least 24 hours before the agreed upon session.

Where do you provide your services?

I tutor out of my own home, but I can accommodate for other options. Meeting at a park, library, coffee shop, or another space is also an option, though outside noises are a factor in the tutoring process.

If one prefers to meet in the comfort of one’s home, we could meet over Zoom or FaceTime, and to meet at the client’s residence, I charge an extra $5 for driving fee depending on the distance.

When considering all these options, I ask that the client keeps in mind that the most progress is seen with a low-distraction and in-person environment

Do you accept charter funds?

Yes! I accept charter funds from the following groups:
Excel Academy, Cabrillo Point, and iLead.

Can I cancel my services at any time?

Clients are able to discontinue tutoring at any time, but it is recommended by the creator of the Barton Reading system to consecutively complete the first 8 levels if the student is below the freshman reading level.

The last two levels include scientific and etymological studying, preparing the student for high school level sciences. Within this setting, for the most effective results, tutoring must be held for at least 2 hours per week.

What methods of payment do you accept?

I accept cash, check, Venmo, card, Zelle, or Apple Pay.

What age of students do you tutor?

Any age! As long as they are able to pass the screening.

How long is each tutoring session?

Tutoring lessons are an hour per session
